In
partnership with Qudos Technology we were asked to provide
a class 10,000 cleanroom in building 186 on the Meyrin
site of CERN (Organisation Europeenne Pour La Recherché
Nucleaire)
The
building was full of equipment but a 75-ton overhead crane
was available which proved invaluable to off-load the
13000 kg of steel framework to support the ceiling and
services.

The
steel framework under construction, great care was taken
to design the structure to ensure there was no conflict
with mechanical services and to suit the extensive power
supplies and telemetry required by the client
To
ensure the integrity of the room, walkways were constructed
over the room to ensure the maximum amount of maintenance
access is available from the exterior.
Construction
well under way and on programme with walls and ceilings
in advanced state of construction.
Completed
room of 1624m3 ready for commissioning
To
comply with client requirements for a 4.0m wide x 4.0m
high clear access to allow their CMS tracker equipment
to be installed & removed from the room a sliding
folding sealed wall was installed, probably the first
of its kind in a cleanroom application.
External
view of the completed installation showing the dimensional
constraints to erect the project.
Cleanroom
formed from 64mm thick insulated monobloc steel partitions
showing flush full height double glazed vision panel and
emergency breakout panel. |
